The Royal Regiment of Guards, Lord Wentworth raised in Holland in 1656 as bodyguard to the exiled King Charles I. John Russell's Regiment of Guards raised 1660 at the Restoration and renamed that year as The King's Royal Regiment of Guards. The Duke of Albemarle's Regiment of Foot, or The Lord General's Regiment transferred to the King's service 1661. Marquis of Argyll's Royal Regiment raised as a Scots contingent by Charles I in 1642 to fight against Catholic forces in Ireland. Scots Regiment of Guards 1661 Placed on the English Establishment ranking as 3rd Foot Guards 1686.	Renamed Third Regiment of Foot Guards in 1712.
