Favourite military aircraft

Alan's favourite - Avro Vulcan Joanne's favourite - Fairey Delta 2

I was lucky enough to vist RAF Waddington when they were still operational and toured a 50 Sqn aircraft.

Now they are restricted to museums. XM598 and the cockpit of XA893 are both at RAF Cosford. The museum has secured lottery funds to create a new exhibit that will bring XM598 in from the cold and reunite it with the Victor and a Valiant to recreate the V-Force.

Joanne has taken a fancy to the Fairey Delta 2, a supersonic research aircraft that achieved a world air speed record of 1,132 mph in 1956.

Only two FD2s were ever built; this is the second. The first (WG774) was converted into a Bristol Type 221 (aka BAC 221) whose ogee delta wing design and droop nose were later used on Concorde. The Bristol aircraft is on display at RNAS Yeovilton.
